Questions for S.C.M.T.C.:: what happened to scmtc?
What happened to everything? Maybe I am just thinking the old days would live on forever but it seems there is nothing left. I ended up selling my mini and getting a more practical vehicle, but there were people after me coming into the scene to replace the void I left. When did that cycle die?
Was is the move to compact cars that killed the "s.c. mini truck c"? Just as Bob Hase described Tiny being part of the van movement in the 80's and before, has the truck movement also taken the same path?
Have lawsuits and out of control partying finally done in this scene?
There seems to be (from what I can tell) no more truck runs, no reso, spring splash, endless summer, west coast, etc. Did the clubs die off that through those events and then the truck runs were also dealt the same fate?
If all that was the case, is there an organization that the compact car clubs have organized to replace this forum? Are there even compact car clubs or just race clubs?
All cycles need to com to an end for another to begin, but it is still sad to see it happen.
It is sad to see something once so great, filling a huge unuvercity hall for meetings every month, reduced to what it is now in the parking lot of a bowling alley.
I searched this forum randomly via the internet on my phone and am now posting to the site. When I got involved with "mini trucking in the early 90's I could not imagine having a "car" phone, the internet was basically just starting to form at that time, and I sure the hell could have never imagined actually surfing the web wirelessly through a phone. When I had a crazy idea to run larger air lines to my "air shocks" and add ball valves to transfer the air quickly, I felt like a pioneer to make my air ride just as fast as hydros. Although many people copied my design, it wasn't too long afterwards that people pioneered air bags and then even aircraft landing gear with full unregulated compressed gas air pressure to be faster than hydros at a smoother ride.
Maybe just as all of things have evolved, so have the vast majority's interests.
Hopefully I am wrong, the Covina Lanes is a great place to meet (not a last resort), and that there are still others to carry the torch as my friends and I did during our era.
Regardless if the movement is still strong, or just some die hards afraid to let it go, it was a time of my life that I will never forget. I made friends I will have for life, CRAZY fun times, and I would not have changed a thing. The one time my club stopped on the way back from Spring Splash to build a proper Intense Minis logo on the side of the tracks along Rice Road; it insures something from our club will live on for probably as long as I will be around. I don't see any major development ever happening that far out in the boonies.
So for you die hards that are keeping the movement going, good for you. If it wasn't for your types then it would have never gotten as far as it did to begin with.
